Air Brakes

Air brakes or Speed brakes are high drag devices that increase the drag or increases angle of approach during landing. These flight control surfaces are mainly fitted to all high performance military aircraft. In most aircraft, they are mounted on fuselage and when deployed extend into the airstream to produce drag.

Air brakes differ from spoilers, in that air brakes are designed to increase drag with little change to lift, while spoilers are designed to reduce the lift-to-drag ratio.
