Air traffic control (ATC) Services

Air traffic control (ATC) is a service provided by ground-based controllers who direct aircraft on the ground and through controlled airspace and can provide advisory services to aircraft in non-controlled airspace. The primary purpose of ATC worldwide is to prevent collisions, organize and expedite the flow of air traffic, and provide information and other support for pilots

To prevent collisions, ATC enforces traffic separation rules, which ensure each aircraft maintains a minimum amount of empty space around it at all times. 

Earl Ward and Glen Gilbert are the fathers of ATC.Earl Ward may be credited with the creation of the first control center, while Glen Gilbert with the design of the traffic separation rules.

Term ATC was officially adopted by British Air Ministry in the year 1939

 In the year 1950 ICAO adopted standard and recommended practices related to Air Traffic services .Several Annexes with changes were introduced to enhance procedures with safety in mind.
