TYPES OF ACCIDENTS

Based on the causes, accidents are divided into two types as follows:

Single cause accident

This type of accidents are almost non-existent and very rare. Generally there is not a single cause for an accident, as several other factors are interlinked with each other. Even though they are not directly related to the main event, they play a major role in the happenings.

Example: A man bumping into the glass door.

This happening seems to be due to a single cause, but it might have been due to domestic stress, no proper signs, glass door being too transparent or external distractions.

Multi-cause accident

This type of accidents are due to the occurrence of chain of events that are responsible in a right sequence. This can be prevented if the error chain is broken.

Example: A group of friends were about to fly in a private aircraft on a late evening. When it was about to take off, one of them realised that they left something behind. While the engine was still running, he rushed to fetch it and was hit by a propeller causing severe injuries.

Many factors contributed in the above case as follows:

  • Airfield procedures during night flight
  • Management issues
  • Proper communication with the guy regarding safety measures
  • Lack of concentration
  • Reasons for taking night flight
